The Voice (NBC) - Welcome back to the second night of the battle rounds, Voice-ettes. What have we learned? Adam Levine has never tasted tangerine ice cream. I should never have to reference Jason Aldean in these recaps. And — I’m pretty certain — NBC is saving its talent-iest bits for the Monday episodes. The Voice (NBC, 8pm) - Do you miss Christina? I do. Sometimes. Entertainment Weekly

American Idol (Fox, 8pm) - The guys and girls finally went head-to-head, and to honor this tremendous occasion, Idol created a "Songs of the American Idols" theme that yielded some of the most boring, done-to-death Top 10 performances ever. Solo Boys Wow on Zippy Idol Thursday

American Idol - There's one sure-fire way I can tell a good "American Idol" episode from a bad one. The bad ones, like Wednesday's, crawl by like a morning commute – it seemed like four hours – while the good ones, like Thursday's, zip along like a NASCAR race. Of course, also like a NASCAR race, there were a lot of crashes and often everybody seemed to be going around in circles, but that goes with the "Idol" territory.

So, the Final Five each performed two songs on last night's The X Factor. And, bearing in mind that the "x factor" is about star quality, not strictly about singing, it's time for America and The X Factor judges to kick Melanie Amaro to the curb. She's a great singer with zero "x factor."

Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2011

ABC's Dancing with the Stars wrapped up Season 13 last night (season 14 kicks off in March). Talk show host Ricki Lake landed in third place and reality star Rob Kardashian came in second. Meaning, JR Martinez went home with the Mirror Ball trophy.

Here are all the details from ABC: 10 weeks ago, 12 stars embarked on a journey to win the coveted Mirror Ball Trophy. Now it's time to find out who bested all the rest in the Season 13 finale of Dancing with the Stars! All the stars and pros are back to help crown this season's champion. Finalists Ricki Lake, J.R. Martinez and Rob Kardashian have a little more work to do in the ballroom, including an Instant Dance. But first, the crowd is treated to a performance by Lady Antebellum. Ricki and Derek choose to do a repeat performance of the Tango they did earlier in the season to the theme from Psycho. It was a bloody good routine the first time around and this follow-up provides even more fantastic dancing. Len says he really liked this memorable dance the first time and loved it this time, too. Bruno thought it was unforgettable and Carrie Ann adds it was beyond perfection. As you may have deduced, the judges were thoroughly impressed. Rob chooses to do the Tango to Sinatra's "Fly Me to the Moon" for his repeat performance. It was a dance he dedicated to the memory of his dad first time around. Though this routine had a very minor hiccup, Bruno thinks Rob has improved more than anyone could have imagined. Carrie Ann says it seems like everything comes easy for him now. Len says Rob has the best footwork he's seen from any guy who has ever been on the show. Wow! J.R. and Karina repeat their Jive to "Jump. Jive 'An Wail." Carrie Ann feels J.R. is such a catalyst for joy even though there were a few oops. Len agrees that J.R.'s sparkling personality lights up the room. Bruno says it was all fun, fun, fun. The judges give ranking scores for this round of dances. Rob and Cheryl come in 3rd place which means they get 26 points. That gets added to their score from the night before for a grand total of 83. J.R. and Karina come in second which means they get 28 points. Add that to their score from the night before and they have a total of 82. Ricki and Derek take first place which means they get 30 points. That gets added to their score from the previous evening for a total of 84. After some quick addition, the time comes for the first elimination of the night. The crowd gasps when they learn that Ricki and Derek finish the season in third place. Ricki takes one final spin around the dance floor before her fellow competitors rush out to give her hugs. And then there were two! The middle portion of the show has all the past dancers return to the stage to perform one more time with another performance from Lady Antebellum thrown in for good measure. Then it's time for the final two teams to do an Instant Samba to "Shake Your Bon Bon" by Ricky Martin. J.R. and Karina take the stage first followed by Rob and Cheryl for the final dances of Season 13. Len stands to give applause for a well done dance. Bruno says Rob really learned how to use his bon-bon. Carrie Ann says both teams went for it and this was a great way to end the season. J.R. and Karina get a perfect 30 from the judges for a total of 112. Rob and Cheryl also score a perfecto for a total of 113. Once all the votes are counted and all the scores are tallied, the winners of the coveted Mirror Ball Trophy are J.R. Martinez and Karina Smirnoff! J.R. has been an inspiration since the Day 1. This was a well-deserved win in another amazing season filled with fabulous performances at the world's greatest dance party. See you next March!

LMFAO
Monday, Nov. 21, 2011 For a good chunk of time last night, the best part of the American Music Awards on ABC was knowing you could flip over to The Amazing Race and The Good Wife on CBS. It's not that the AMAs were unusually horrible, it's just that they were predictably terrible - though, ultimately redeemed by a few great performances. For a long, brutal stretch, the show was all about over-produced performances (like the offensively bad Enrique Iglesias); overhyped standing ovations (for every half-celebrity stomping their boots in Hollywood); overly rehearsed screaming fans who wouldn't sit down or shut up. Exactly who won what was pretty much beside the point (but click here for the complete list of winners). What ultimately mattered most is that the awards show, which has long tried to distinguish itself from the Grammy Awards by being younger and hipper, is that Mary J. Blige took to the stage and didn't play into the overly hyped insanity that preceded her. She sang. She nailed it. She left. That set the stage for a couple of other great performances - Will.i.am (with Jennifer Lopez). And the nutty LMFAO ended the show on an incredibly great, uplifting and fun note - dancing, singing, stripping and getting Justin Bieber and David Hasselhoff in on the action. (By the way, over on The Amazing Race, Amani and Marcus came in 1st place - only to find out that their next challenge began immediately! Wuh?!?)
Jennifer Carpenter (Debra)
Monday, Nov. 21, 2011 The main story [on last night's Dexter - Showtime] was Dexter and Debra’s crumbling relationship, writes Claire Zulkey in the Los Angeles Times. Early in the episode Dexter muses about how children blindly trust their parents, and we then see Deb realizing how much less she can trust her brother than she originally thought. “I took advantage of you,” Dexter apologizes early in the episode, but Deb’s disappointed by him all over again when she learns that he ran off to Nebraska during his time off, which she sees as him opting not to confide in her regarding his anguish over the Trinity Killer rearing his head again. Friday, Nov. 18, 2011 If The X Factor's Stacy Francis accomplishes nothing else in her singing career, she has already gone down in history for delivering one of the best moments in reality TV and, really, in TV, period. Her audition, when the show began a couple of months ago, with her mascara-soaked face, her pleas to judge Simon Cowell to give her a chance, her backstory of being in a bad relationship, was amazing. (Check it out below). And, finally, Simon's telling her that her audition was one of the best he's ever seen was nothing short of fantastic. But this can't be the last we see of Stacy - she's way too talented to fade away. Stacy, we're rooting for  you!
The X Factor
Thursday, Nov. 17, 2011 The X Factor results show airs tonight on Fox at 8pm - someone's gotta go. Here's a recap of last night's episode: I love rock'n'roll -- but it was in seriously short supply during this week's The X Factor, writes Laura Prudom on AOLTV. Host Steve Jones opened the show with the ominous qualifier that the week's theme was "rock songs, or songs sung in a rock style" which was the first clue that trouble was afoot. We heard reggae, rap, blues and ballads, but very little in the way of actual guitar-smashing, amp-blasting rock; the only one who really fulfilled the assignment was resident rocker Josh Krajcik -- go figure. Still, I'm pretty sure that Stacy Francis hit rock bottom with a screechy, tone-deaf rendition of Meat Loaf's (via Celine Dion) 'It's All Coming Back to Me Now,' and my eardrums may never recover. Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2011 Professional soccer player Hope Solo got booted from Dancing with the Stars last night on ABC, just one week shy of the finale. While it wasn't much of a surprise - and, in the final moments last night, you coudl see that Hope knew it was coming, it was still sad. Which means the top 3 celebrities for this, the 13th season of the show, are: Ricki Lake, J. R. Martinez and Rob Kardashian. Click Read More below for all the deets from ABC. From ABC: It's time for the Results Show to determine who will head into the finals of Season 13. Woo hoo! Rob and Cheryl wowed the judges enough to earn them the honor of doing an encore dance. It's just as entertaining as it was the night before. The judges told Rob and Cheryl they were finishing the season strong, and it must be true, as they are headed for the finals! But Hope and Maks learn they are in jeopardy. After a rockin' performance from Cobra Starship, we are treated to a fun fashion fest featuring Carson Kressley. Net Anna and Derek take to the stage for a Macy's Performance utilizing all the elements of this season's Design-a-Dance, including a fan-designed costume. Four talented young men who study dance at the Gold School tell tales of how they've been teased and bullied for doing what they love. Footloose star Kenny Wormald promises that things will get better. He's right. These four young men do a knockout routine in the AT&T Spotlight Performance. The Muppets take to the stage to accompany 20 dancers in a performance to "Life's a Happy Song." Then we learn that J.R. and Karina are in jeopardy, but Ricki and Derek are headed for the finals! Hope and Maks and J.R. and Karina take center stage as they await the final results. At the end of the night, Hope and Maks are heading home which means J.R. and Karina are going to the finals. Now that the Mirrorball Trophy is out of reach, Hope says she'll just have to go for a Gold Medal at the Olympics. Speaking of the Mirrorball Trophy, the three remaining teams will dance once more during the exciting season finale. Who will win? We have no idea. But we can't wait to find out!
Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2011 Ricki Lake solidified her lead on Dancing with the Stars last night, when the four finalists each danced three dances. (The results show airs tonight at 9pm on ABC). Ricki's ahead on the judges' scores. But J. R. Martinez, the actor and war vet who was severely injured by fire, has America on his side. In a TVFirstLook poll yesterday, 77% of those voting said J.R. will take the crown. Only 18% think Ricki will go home the winner. (Keep reading afte the vid). Meanwhile, just 4% of TVFirstLook voters think reality star Rob Kardashian will win. That could, though, based on his performances on Monday. There was a whole lotta butt shaking going on - and the judges and studio audience were kinda going nuts. Hope Solo, the Olympic soccer player, is pretty much a goner tonight. She looked genuinely upset by her ranking - No. 4 out of four remaining dancers. Monday, Nov. 14, 2011 The only way Rick Perry could shove his foot further into his mouth would be with a little help from the cast of Saturday Night Live, writes Joyce Chen in the New York Daily News.
This past Saturday, the GOP presidential hopeful was reminded once more of his on-air snafu with a cold open completely dedicated to reinacting the awkward moment. In the nearly 6-minute clip, Bill Hader plays the much-mocked Perry, initially earnest about a second go at the debates.

    Michael C. Hall
Monday, Nov. 14, 2011 The title of [last night's] episode, “Nebraska,” should have let you know that we wouldn’t be getting our typical Season 6 installment of Dexter, writes Claire Zulkey in the Los Angeles Times. In a midseason interlude, the series took a sharp turn [last night] that indulged Dexter’s dark passenger (literally, his brother Brian Moser was riding with him in his car) and looked and sounded different from most other episodes to date. I’m not complaining, however. Christian Camargo chews the scenery as Brian, a seductive, petulant, easily bored monster whom I personally find strangely sexy. Friday, Nov. 11, 2011 The X Factor - fantastic, fun, already signed up for a second season (but we want Cheryl Cole back) - may want to rethink the whole group-vs-solo act thing. When fans are voting, it's tougher to love a big unruly group of people than it is to latch onto a solo act. So, no surprise, the two performers with the lowest scores last night were groups - country act Lakoda Rayne and R&B group The Stereo Hogzz. Lakoda Rayne - very talented - had a horrific final performance. But they were good enough, or promising enough, to make it to next week. More details from Fox - click Read More below.
Tonight it was announced that The Stereo Hogzz, one of Paula Abdul’s Groups, was eliminated from THE X FACTOR. After Steve Jones announced that Lakoda Rayne and The Stereo Hogzz received the fewest votes following last night’s movie-themed performance show, judges Simon Cowell, Abdul, L.A. Reid and Nicole Scherzinger asked the two finalists to perform their “song for survival” and then eliminated The Stereo Hogzz, of Houston, TX. In addition, Willow Smith sang her latest hit “Fireball” and Jessie J performed “Domino.”

Next week, the Top 10 Finalists, including Girls – Melanie Amaro, Rachel Crow and Drew; Boys – Astro, Marcus Canty and Chris Rene; Over 30s – LeRoy Bell, Stacy Francis and Josh Krajcik; and last remaining group Lakoda Rayne will continue to battle it out for America’s votes, THE X FACTOR title, a $5 million recording contract with Syco/Sony Music and an iconic Pepsi commercial. Don’t miss the Top 10 Finalists perform LIVE Wednesday, Nov. 16 (8:00-10:00 PM ET live/PT tape-delayed) on FOX.
    Taylor Swift
Thursday, Nov. 10, 2011 It's been a huge year for country group The Band Perry and that hit a crescendo last night on ABC's 45th Annual CMA Awards. The Band Perry won CMAs for New Artist of the Year, Single of the Year and Song of the Year for the stripped down, pure country song "If I Die Young." Meantime, Taylor Swift won the big prize: Entertainer of the Year, while Jason Aldean won Album of the Year ("My Kinda Party") and (with American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson) Musical Event of the Year. Check out the CMA winners here. Thursday, Nov. 10, 2011 From CNBC: Herman Cain swatted away character issues, Rick Perry couldn't remember which federal agencies he wants to eliminate, and a still-crowded field of Republican candidates agreed that the way to save the government is by shrinking it.
A lively debate that CNBC moderated at Oakland University Wednesday night featured a range of differences and an abundance of similarities.
The candidates each said the days of government bailouts for companies should end, and they bemoaned government regulations that make it too difficult to do business in the U.S.

    Rachel Crow
Thursday, Nov. 10, 2011 The young grew older and an oldster got younger on The X Factor Wednesday night as another live show, this one with songs drawn from the movies, produced some intriguing performances, writes Niel Genzlinger in the New York Times. Rachel Crow, the 13-year-old who to this point has been a vaguely annoying curiosity, aged about 20 years when she closed the night with “I’d Rather Go Blind” from the film “Cadillac Records.” What had been a loud but immature voice morphed into a soul belter. An occasionally off-key soul belter, but still. Click Read More to watch Rachel's performance. Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2011 Ack, scandal! Well, it was bound to happen. HLN host and plain ol' fun-and-nutty Nancy Grace danced her last dance on ABC's Dancing with the Stars. If you've been watching, you know Nancy danced with precision, usually. But she also danced without much soul or groove. The word "stiff" comes to mind. Still, Nancy was so much fun to watch, particularly for the crazy fake hair she sported most nights. Oh, and her icy relationship with dance partner Tristan MacManus warmed up, slightly. Nancy, after fumbling and bumbling, finally thanked Tristan for helping her out all season (or, really, tolerating her nutty antics). Bye, Nancy, we'll miss you! Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2011 Week 8 brought a lot of excitement to the sparkly universe we know as Dancing With the Stars, writes Allyssa Lee in the Los Angeles Times. First, we’re just a week away from the semifinals and that much closer to handing out that coveted Mirrorball trophy. Second, each of the five remaining couples had to dance another full routine, the Instant Dance, along with the regular routines. Finally, we got not just one, but two perfect 30 scores! And by the same couple, no less! Monday, Nov. 7, 2011 Fox's Allen Gregory, it's new Sunday night animated comedy from actor Jonah Hill, proved last night that even the very greatest first episodes of a TV show are often followed by, eh, pretty good episodes. Coming on the heels of AG's extra-great debut, last night's episode - by comparison - was OK. Seven-year-old Allen was obsessing on his 70ish-year-old principal - at the public school he's now forced to go to because of, probably, his gay dad's financial issues. Allen, who's pretentious to a hysterical fault, set out to get his classmates thinking there was a sex tape of him and the principal, well, doing it. No surprise, he never got around to distributing that sex tape. But he did get people wondering - by almost playing the DVD for his class. But, after quiet contemplation - unlike that displayed by any other seven year old, Allen broke the DVD. AG - it's a really good new show. Here's hoping upcoming episodes are great, rather than just better than your average sitcom. Monday, Nov. 7, 2011 In the series premiere [of AMC's Hell on Wheels - Sunday, 10pm], Bohannon confronts the man he thinks is his wife's killer only to find out that he may have useful information implicating another man in the crime, writes Catherine Lawson on AOLTV. However, just as Johnson seems about to reveal all, an unexpected and violent turn leaves Bohannon with even more unanswered questions. Critics have been divided over the merits of 'Hell on Wheels,' with AOL TV's Maureen Ryan describing it as "a dud" and "AMC's first truly terrible drama." Check out this preview of next week's Hell on Wheels.

Friday, Nov. 4, 2011 So, on last night's The X Factor results show, it became crystal clear that it's harder to care about a big, blobby, murky group of teens than it is to care about a solo performer, particularly a solo performer with a rough backstory (and running mascara) - Love you, Stacy! On Fox's increasingly great The X Factor, teen group InTENsity got the boot. They were cute kids, but, seriously, they were green - wobbly, warbly and, well, there were 10 of them! It seems safe to say, at this point, that the show is going to come down to a battle between singer Melanie Amaro (mentored by Simon Cowell) and Stacy Francis (mentored by Nicole Sherzinger). But, the show is great at surprises, if nothing, else. So, who knows? We'll be watching to find out. Click Read More below to watch a clip of Stacy Francis.

Thursday, Nov. 3, 2011 On the same day (Wednesday) that Fox renewed The X Factor for a second season, the show kicked into its next phase. Viewers are now voting for the singers who will stick around - the singers are still coached in groups (like, "over 30s") by the show's mentors and judges. The results come in tonight (Fox, 8pm). In this the live stage phase, a few highly talented people like rapper/singer/songwriter Chris Rene are starting to fade into the background, just by comparison to even more talented singers (Stacy Francis). David Arquette
The dreaded “going first” curse struck the Dancing with the Stars ballroom for the third time this season, this time taking down David Arquette and Kym Johnson, writes Lisa Reynolds in the Wall Street Journal. Their magic act didn’t dazzle enough viewers or produce enough points, and they became the seventh couple eliminated. Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2011 The new iteration of Two and a Half Men (Mon., 9pm on CBS) continues to bring back past guest stars to meet the new guy, writes Jason Hughes on AOLTV. This time around it's Alan's mother, Evelyn. As she has a "proclivity for younger man," as Alan put it, she should certainly enjoy meeting Mr. Schmidt. Friday, Oct. 28, 2011 Game 7 in the World Series airs live on Fox on Friday, 7:30pm, Eastern.
    David Freese

Here's a recap of what went down last night from FoxSport's Mark Kriegel: As it ended, an exceedingly well-trained PR man — Brad Horn, employed by the National Baseball Hall of Fame — came away with custody of the soon-to-be-sacred artifacts.
Those would be David Freese’s bat — a black Pro Adirondack — and the remnants of the Cardinals’ home jersey gleefully torn by his teammates after his game-winning home run in the sixth game of the 107th World Series, what may well go down as The Greatest Game Ever Played.
Thursday, Oct. 27, 2011 If you missed the indie rock group, Foster the People, perform last night on Live on Letterman, you missed another incredible live show put on by the Late Show with David Letterman team. As it turns out, Foster the People is far better than you might expect from a band that's best known for one catchy pop tune. They were great, truly - check it out here. By the way, here's that catchy pop tune. Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2011 So, what did we learn last night on Fox's The X Factor? First, two and a half hours of anything is about a half-hour too much - true for The X Factor. Second, 17 singing acts on one episode is an awful lot of singing and subsequent crying and "thank you"-ing - no matter how genuine and heartfelt. But we also found out that The X Factor is incredibly entertaining and most of its 17 contestants (now, 12) are immensely talented. Last night's standouts included 15-year-old rapper Astro, 14-year-old singer Rachel Crow, the group Lakoda Rayne and pop singer Simone Battle. Meantime, judges Simon Cowell and L.A. Reid have been exchanging words (scripted, possibly, but effectively shaking up the show). Paula Abdul cried a bit (we need more, Paula!). Nicole Scherzinger continues to annoy (sorry - Cheryl Cole, where are you?). And host Steve Jones is capable and interesting and totally terrified by live TV. Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2011 From ABC: [Monday] night was when the remaining seven celebrity contestants [on Dancing with the Stars] danced to Broadway show tunes, and for the first time in season 13, performed a group dance.
    Photo: Adam Taylor/ABC
The night started out with the pairs’ dances, and judges were bluntly honest. They said Rob Kardashian’s fun cha-cha (to “Walk Like a Man” from “Jersey Boys”) lacked movement and charisma. Goodman described the reality TV personality’s performance as “clean” and “precise,” but said it was stiff and without rhythm. Kardashian earned 22 points out of a possible 30. Nancy Grace got positive reviews for her chipper foxtrot performed to “Always Look on the Bright Side of Life” from “Monty Python’s Spamalot.” Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2011 World Series - Game 6 airs tomorrow (Wednesday) on Fox, live at 7:30pm, Eastern. Here is a recap of Game 5 from Mark Kriegel on FoxSports.com. To this point, it’s not the World Series anybody expected, what with the pitchers' duels and Ron Washington out-managing Tony La Russa. Still, as seen from the inside, the strangest development has to be our nightly pilgrimage to the locker of a burly man with a collection of miniature rubber duckies. That would be Mike Napoli, hero of Monday night's Game 5, who lifted Texas to within one win of its first title with a tiebreaking two-run double in the eighth inning of a 4-2 victory. Monday, Oct. 24, 2011 The World Series Game 5 airs tonight, live on Fox at 7:30pm, Eastern.
    Elvis Andrus
Here is a recap of last night's Game 4 from Anthony Andro on FoxSports: Just like in Game 2 of the World Series, the middle infield of the Texas Rangers found its comfort zone Sunday night. One night after both Elvis Andrus and Ian Kinsler made errors in a sloppy 16-7 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals, the Texas duo was back to sparking the offense and turning in solid defensive plays in a 4-0 Texas victory. Their play helped the Rangers tied the Series at 2-2 and gave the team momentum heading into Game 5 on Monday night at Rangers Ballpark. Sunday, Oct. 23, 2011 World Series - Game 4 is on Fox tonight (8pm, Eastern).
    Albert Pujols
Here is a recap of the historic Game 3 from Roger Schlueter on MLB.com: Flint Rhem, Hi Bell, Bill Sherdel and Pete Alexander all pitched for the Cardinals at some point in their respective careers. All four of those men pitched for St. Louis in the World Series. And all four, as members of the Cardinals, surrendered a home run to Babe Ruth in the Fall Classic. These four hurlers are the men responsible for the pair of three-home run games by Ruth in the World Series, which, until Saturday night, was the Redbirds' only World Series connection to three-home run games. Albert Pujols put the Cardinals on the right side of the historic ledger in Game 3, and he gave Rangers hurlers Alexi Ogando, Michael Gonzalez and Darren Oliver unwanted spots in the record books. Friday, Oct. 21, 2011 Ron Washington’s pre-game remarks included this improbable declaration: “I’d look for Hamilton to come up big tonight," writes Mark Kriegel on FoxSports.
    Albert Pujols
Aggressive baserunning by Kinsler, Andrus saved the game, FOX Sports Southwest says.
Josh Hamilton, a nobly recovering drug addict, is the Rangers’ best story, and, when healthy, their best player. But at the most inopportune time, a groin injury has forced him to swing without the lower torso that generated so much of his power. It was OK, he said before the Game 2: “I’ve hit home runs before just flicking at the ball.” Thursday, Oct. 20, 2011 World Series Game 2 - Fox, tonight at 7:30pm, Eastern - live. Here's a recap of Game 1 from Mark Kriegel on FoxSports: You match two of baseball’s best-hitting teams on a cold, damp night when the ball is slick to the grip, and what do you get?

    A pitchers’ duel, of course.
Even more improbable, however, was how the Cardinals' 3-2 win over the Rangers in Game 1 of the World Series began — with an admission by the game’s much-reputed managerial genius that he had been out-managed nearly a quarter of a century ago. That would be Tony La Russa, referring to the 1988 Series which his Oakland Athletics lost to the supposedly overmatched Dodgers, then managed by Tommy Lasorda, who is a great mascot, though no one’s idea of a genius. Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2011 A two-hour [The X Factor] reveal show! At least they didn’t have the contestants go up an elevator and walk down a ridiculously long room to face the judges for the results. Nope. They just stand by whatever pool-side locale and awaited their fates - Rodney Ho in the Atlanta Journal Constitution. As expected, there were some good picks, some not-so-good picks. Nicole Scherzinger twice picked personality over vocal skills (Dexter and Stacey). Simon Cowell picked a couple of ladies others didn’t particularly like (Tiah and Simone). Paula did a decent job with her four group picks, though I would have taken Anser over 2′Squared. Reid, who arguably had the weakest team, picked the best of the lot, I fathom. I have no real arguments over his choices, even the little rap kid.
    Michael C. Hall
Monday, Oct. 17, 2011 From the Los Angeles Times: I’m really enjoying the long slow build that this season of Dexter is taking with its main freaky murder plot. Obviously, we know Travis Marshall and Professor Gellar are up to no good (you can tell by Colin Hanks’ “I’m very upset!!!” face) but what exactly they’re doing and why, well, we barely know more than we knew in the first episode of the season. It felt like last season, the writers doubted our patience and introduced characters and very quickly showed us their M.O.s. There was little doubt, for instance, the moment we saw Jonny Lee Miller appear onscreen that he was the ringleader of his particular gang of sadistic thugs. Friday, Oct. 14, 2011 [We've] reached the "Judges' House" portion of The X Factor, and this is where the show should really start to differentiate itself from its rivals, writes Laura Prudom on AOLTV. Did it succeed? Partially. Whether any of the judges actually occupy these lavish abodes is questionable (I'm especially suspicious of Cowell), but it was a refreshing change to actually see the entirety of the contestants' performances (aside from Over 30 waiter James Kenney, who, I guess, the producers deemed too boring).
    Cher in the DWTS Audience
Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2011 Chynna Phillips had to endure an hour’s worth of being told she messed up and then was given the boot at the end of Week 4’s Dancing With the Stars results hour - Allyssa Lee in the Los Angeles Times. “These things happen,” said an ever-consoling Tony Dovolani. “The thing is, she finished the routine.” It’s too bad the Wilson Phillips singer couldn’t, ahem, hold on for one more day, because she really was an elegant dancer, and husband Billy Baldwin said he had wanted her to “stick the landing next week and wow the crowds again.”
    Oprah Winfrey
Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2011 In hindsight, it is probably predictable that Oprah Winfrey would stumble in her move from daytime TV to her own network, which needs programming 24 hours a day - not just one hour. Last night, Oprah's OWN network (a joint venture with Discovery) underwent its biggest overhaul, in an attempt to lure in viewers. First up was Oprah's Lifeclass (8pm) - a show in which Oprah channels Maya Angelou to dispense her wisdom to the rest of us. Oprah looks back at old episodes of Oprah and tells us what she learned from each. The show is just awful. It may never be any good. First, Oprah is in full-on deity mode, where she elevates herself to some lofty level that none of us can aspire to (teacher/student). Second, and worse, her learning apparently means ridiculing the Oprah we loved for 25 years. Remember Skinny Oprah - when Oprah was, like the rest of us, trying to look her best? Well, we shouldn't like that Skinny Oprah. It wasn't the true Oprah or something. Meantime, The Rosie Show is terrible, but seems to be salvageable. Rosie O'Donnell made a massive mistake by having subpar comedic actor Russell Brand as her primary guest. He was overbearing, cloying and annoying. Rosie started the show with a standup routine that I predict will be trimmed down to a minute or two (I have confidence that Rosie and her team will work out the kinks). A game show at the end of The Rosie Show, like the standup routine, went on way too long. The most frustrating aspect of The Rosie Show is that it's thisclose to be the old Rosie daytime show that millions of people loved. Something tells that, after ratings come in, the show will start moving back to a faster, funnier format - you know, like the show viewers liked in the first place. Thursday, Oct. 6, 2011 There's a troubling development on Simon Cowell's The X Factor (Fox - tonight, 8/7c). Just a few weeks into its heavily hyped debut season, the singing competition is getting dangerously close to being, well, dull. In fact, Cowell seems to be bringing out the wild card to drum up an audience - loads of promos showing Paula Abdul crying (like, hysterically so). Perhaps that will make the show a bit more interesting - we'll find out soon. That said, The X Factor on Wednesday continued to distinguish itself from American Idol. One hundred finalists were split up into groups of 10 (that continues tonight). The teams were coached -- singing, dancing -- and then performed together. The performances on The X Factor are better than the performances on just about any other singing competition -- that's the highlight of the show. But, so far, it turns out that a superior level of talent doesn't necessarily make for a superior viewing experience. In fact, there are moments during The X Factor when you can't help but long for a little bit of American Idol's audition lunacy.
Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2011 This week's theme [on Dancing with the Stars] is the "Most Memorable Year of My Life." Does that mean we're in for some truly memorable performances? The fact that our stars will be dancing in tribute to some of the most emotional experiences they've ever had leads us to believe so! - from ABC. Click Read More below to watch a clip. Rob & Cheryl Rob recalls the year his father passed away. His Foxtrot to Sinatra's "Fly Me to the Moon" is a tribute to his dad. And a nice tribute it is, as it ends with an ascent up the steps to a finish in front of the moon. Len say Rob put the "dash" in Kardashian. Bruno loved the beautiful storyline behind the dance. Carrie Ann thought it was a debonair and charming performance. Trip 8s for 24 from the judges make Rob and Cheryl happy after a dance that would have made Dad proud. Chynna & Tony Chynna has a message of hope in her Rumba to one of her own songs in "Hold On." Bruno thinks Chynna is a smoldering siren and Carrie Ann thinks she's stunning to watch during her elegant dance. Len thinks she'll be here from week to week. Obviously, Chynna had a very personal connection to a song that she hopes will show people you can come through the darkness into the light. 8-9-9 for a total of 26 from the judges certainly seems to brighten Chynna and Tony's night. Chaz & Lacey Chaz picks a song his dad wrote called "Laugh at Me" for his Rumba with Lacey. He's celebrating this current year, as he's never been happier. Chaz and Lacey are in sync at the start but get a little mixed up toward the end. Carrie Ann loves Chaz's courage, but doesn't think this was his best dance. Len disagrees. Bruno says there was a moment where Chaz looked a little lost. That's a problem in a dance that requires constant movement. It's a difficult dance, but Chaz performed admirably. Trip 6s for a total of 18 is an indicator that this team has room for improvement. Kristin & Mark Kristin graduated high school and moved to L.A. in 2005. It's the year she had to decide if she would go to school or pursue a career in entertainment. She's celebrating her ultimate choice with a slick, sexy Samba. Len thought 80 percent of the dance was fabulous while Bruno's animated comments suggest he thinks it was closer to a hundred. Carrie Ann thought she did Beyoncé proud in the dance she performed to her song. The judges give them Trip 8s for a total of 24. Carson & Anna Carson is celebrating the year Queer Eye for the Straight Guy came out. He was able to be comfortable and proud with his identity in front of the world. Wearing what will surely go down as one of the brightest jackets in show history, Carson tackles the Tango with Anna and brings the ballroom crowd to its feet. Bruno thought it was insanely brilliant and Carrie Ann thought the combo of girly-girly and masculine dancing was fantastic. Len thinks Carson put the "boy" in "flamboyant." 8-7-8 from the judges gives them a 23 for their best total of the competition. J.R. & Karina J.R. reflects about how he felt after the wartime event that changed his life. He was injured badly, but a lot of men and women never even make it home from war. His Rumba is a tribute to them. The dance is smooth, elegant and emotional. J.R. put his heart and soul into the performance. There are cheers and tears all around. Carrie Ann believes it was one of the most profound, honest dances ever. Len didn't expect such a wonderful, poignant performance. Bruno loved how he stretched his foot, as you should in the Samba. 9-8-9 for 26 ties them with Chynna and Tony. Nancy & Tristan Nancy recalls how she almost lost her twins before they were even born. Thankfully, the kids pulled through and "Moon River" is the very first lullaby she ever sung to them. Now she does an emotional Waltz to the tune. Len says she needs to work on her posture, but she certainly showed the emotion of the dance. Bruno wants more carry through. Carrie Ann thought the dance was like a live-action lullaby. Trip 7s gives them a total of 21. Nancy's happy about that, as well as the fact that she saw her kids smiling so big during her dance. Ricki & Derek Ricki had a rough year in 2010. She went through a divorce and lost her home in a fire. But then she found love. Her Rumba is a celebration of the fact that she allowed herself to love again. Bruno thought every step was essential to the telling of the story. Carrie Ann thinks Ricki is on fire! Len congratulates Derek on a great routine and he congratulates Ricki for dancing it so well. Trip 9s give them a total of 27 which is tops for the night. Hope & Maks Hope's Cha Cha celebrates the journey she's been able to make as an athlete. Maks pushed her to be sexy during rehearsals. All their hard work certainly paid off, as Hope seemed to be having a lot of fun out there. Carrie Ann thought it was sexy and hot, but she wants Hope to work on her walk. Len thought it was a bit too provocative for him, but the actual Cha Cha was very good and this was her best dance so far. Bruno agrees about the walk, but the talent of a true dancer is all there. Trip 8s gives them a total of 24 and brings smiles from Hope and Maks. David & Kym<br /> David had a rough year when his marriage fell apart and he abused alcohol. But it made him realize how much his daughter means to him. Life is about love and not giving in to fear. He wants his Rumba to show that. We've seen the slightly-wacky David in the past, but tonight his intensity came shining through. Len thought it was a great mix of motion and emotion. Bruno thought it was wonderful and Carrie Ann thought it was a very nice comeback. She noticed his daughter was exuding pure joy as she watched her dad. And that's what dancing is all about. Trip 8s gives them a nice total of 24. It was an emotional night in which everyone put it all out there on the dance floor. The stories, the music and, of course, the performances certainly made this a night to remember. Performance Show Week 3

Monday, Oct. 3, 2011 It was her first time hosting Saturday Night Live—her “holy grail,” she told Jimmy Fallon last week—and Melissa McCarthy was a natural, writes Jane Kellogg in The Hollywood Reporter.

Thursday, Sept. 29, 2011 Tuesday night's episode of Glee -- the second installment in the "back to basics" Season 3 -- gave us only three musical numbers (two solos and one duet, all show tunes, two of them from "West Side Story"); a lot of plot set-up for the season (along with some difficult-to-digest character choices); and a delicious dose of Brittany-isms (and some choice lines from other characters too) writes Amy Reiter in the Los Angeles Times. Thursday, Sept. 29, 2011 The X Factor annoys me in only one . It's trying way too hard to prove that Nicole Scherzinger deserves to be at the judge's table and, more to the point, is worthy of having replaced Cheryl Cole, who show creator and judge Simon Cowell kicked to the curb. Case in point, Nicole singing at that judge's table last night. Ugh. Really, the overdoing it is annoying, and so is she. That said, in week two, The X Factor is more clearly differentiating itself from American Idol, particuarly with great tear-jerky stories from people auditioning. And, as Simon Cowell promised before The X Factor debuted last week, the show is seriously ramping up the talent. Sure, there are bad singers having terrible auditions. But, mostly, major talents are being discovered, like Skyelor Anderson (see below). Newly discovered stars, even if they don't end up winning the $5 million prize.
    Ricki Lake and Derek Hough
Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2011 It was a night of fast-paced footwork with the Dancing With the Stars celebs performing either the quickstep or the jive, writes Ann Oldenburg in USA Today. Who was able to cut it - and who just couldn't keep up? Ricki Lake's jive rocked the ballroom, thanks to Derek Hough, who danced circles around the talk show host as she shimmied in a pink spangled outfit. It was too fun for judge Len Goodman, who grumped, "I didn't like it." Bruno Tonioli said she was the first person to do the kicks correctly, adding, "You did incredibly well." Noted Carrie Ann Inaba: "Best jive of the night so far!" Ricki, who danced 7th, didn't mention how much weight she has lost, but said she has lost "12 inches in three weeks." Scores: 8, 7, 8 = 23 Thursday, Sept. 22, 2011 Before I get to a few complaints about The X Factor, I love this show. Hook, line and sinker. I'm sold. Now, my complaints. First, Cheryl Cole should have stayed, and a I want her back. Second, it was hard not to feel like I was watching American Idol. Now, the real recap. The X Factor started a bit wobbly. The auditions felt a lot like the worst of American Idol, particularly when an elderly couple was the butt of the jokes. Ugh. The show worked, and much more so, when it was doing what creator and judge Simon Cowell has been saying it would - raising the bar on singing competition shows. Two showstoppers -- Stacy Francis and Chris Rene -- are exactly what I was hoping for: extremely talented people, and their sad stories were genuinely moving. Loved the show and can't wait for Part II tonight (Fox, 8pm).
Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2011 Fox's Hell's Kitchen, with chef Gordon Ramsay, wrapped up its ninth season last night. The winner? Paul Niedermann, the 26-year-old who was sometimes pushy, often arrogant but almost always a promising chef. From Fox: The ninth season of HELL’S KITCHEN came to an extraordinary close tonight as Gordon Ramsay announced Paul Niedermann the winner during the two-hour season finale on FOX. Niedermann, 26, a junior sous chef from Davie, FL, walked away with a “head chef” position at the legendary BLT Steak in New York City.
Niedermann competed against thousands of hopefuls and was awarded an esteemed spot among the Top 18 finalists. In the end, he went head-to-head with Will Lustberg, a sous chef from Jersey City, NJ. For the final challenge, both contestants created their own menus, and led teams of their past competitors through a heated, intense and, of course, tasty dinner service. But it was Niedermann’s crack team of chefs that helped propel him to victory with an original, creative and delicious menu, which included the following items:

    Appetizers:

    · Truffle risotto with warm asparagus salad

    · Pan-roasted scallop with sweet corn emulsion, crispy leeks and smoked paprika oil

    · Poached garlic shrimp with jalapeño lemon and garlic crouton

    · Heirloom tomato carpaccio with baby gem Caesar salad, shaved romano and tangerine

     Entrees:

    · Roasted N.Y. steak with saffron and celery root purée, brussels sprouts and chianti jus

    · Grilled swordfish with yellow pepper romanesco, rapini and blue crab-stuffed tomato

    · Grilled lamb chops with eggplant caponata, roasted fingerling potatoes and lamb jus

    · Filet branzino with preserved lemon, moussoline, pea tendrils, English peas and

    tomato compote

     Desserts:

    · Banana polenta cake with mascarpone, Chantilly cream, pistachios and brûléed bananas

    · Strawberry basil Napoleon with orange crème fraiche panna cotta and micro basil

    · Maraschino cherry tart

"There are no words to describe how I am feeling right now,” said Niedermann. “I want to thank everyone who supported me and helped me get to where I am today, with an extra thanks to my team, because, without them, I would never have won. So thank you Elise, Carrie, Elizabeth and Jonathon."

HELL’S KITCHEN Season Nine finished this summer as one of the Top 3 entertainment programs among Adults 18-49, Men 18-49 and Men 18-34.
    Rick Perry
Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2011 No matter what you think of the Republican candidates for president, there was one glaring truth about seven of eight of them last night on CNN's Tea Party Debate: All but Michele Bachmann seemed ill prepared for a national debate and, frankly, awkward and uncomfortable. The candidates' unwritten objective was to knock Texas governor Rick Perry down a few pegs, notably by latching onto his calling Social Security a Ponzi scheme. It didn't work, although Rick Perry couldn't come up with the words to defend himself, or his wild flip-flopping ever since. Most of the night came down to Candidate A not answering the question posed by CNN's Wolf Blitzer, and then Candidate B attempting to squeeze out a few talking points. The greatest offender on that front was former Utah governor Jon Huntsman who, for one brutally uncomfortable minute, somehow, when answering a question about immigration, went off on a tangent about real estate prices. Ooh-kay. Huntsman, Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich solidified their places on the second tier of candidates. Businessman Herman Cain failed to dazzle--or say anything compelling--although, he has a lock on Tier 1B. Texas congressman Ron Paul seems increasingly like a fringe candidate. As for Rick Perry and former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney, they remain the leaders of the pack. Neither appears to have major flaws at this point, nor, a lock on the nomination. Friday, Sept. 9, 2011 The second season of Louie had a number of moments that didn’t just amuse me; they made my heart swell with joy and, sometimes, sadness, writes the brilliant Ken Tucker in Entertainment Weekly. As if to acknowledge these reactions in his viewers, Louis C.K. crafted a season finale on Thursday night that found his character hitting new highs…and lows. Monday, Aug. 29, 2011 There were so many great moments last night on MTV's Video Music Awards that's actually quite easy to forgive the low-lights (Chris Brown lip-synching comes to mind). The highlights culminated with Adele. Check out her historic first-time VMA performance--truly amazing. Click here for a full rundown of winners: VMA Winners.

Monday, Aug. 29, 2011 Over the weekend, Hurricane Irene caused death, damage and untold inconvenience for millions of Americans along the East Coast. While the destruction is very real, and will continue for some time, we can be thankful the destruction was not as severe as initially feared. Like a lot of people, I was glued to TV all weekend (the Internet, for me, doesn't really cut it for major news events like this). While watching endless hours of Hurricane Irene coverage, it occured to me that Fox News did the best job that's required for major news events: Their coverage was exhaustive and, this can't be said for most networks, entertaining. I particularly enjoyed Geraldo Rivera standing on a dark New York City street in about six inches of water, and being pummeled by pounding rain, and making small talk with a couple of NYC cops out on patrol. I flipped from Fox News to Weather Channel. At first, it was the opposite. But, while Weather Channel truly stepped up its coverage, and their experts clearly were the ones to listen to, their coverage was more cautious, and less fun, than Fox News' coverage. That said, after Fox News and Weather Channel, the other news networks did respectable work but were dull by comparison. Thursday, Aug. 25, 2011 For a moment there, right around the time the dad from Long Island got teary-eyed thinking about what he'd do with $1 million for a rare violin his late father gave to him, I thought I was going to love Fox's Buried Treasure (premiered on Wednesday, Aug. 24 on Fox). Instead, it turns out that Buried Treasure is a good show, with great moments (and weird, awkward, let's-try-to-be Hoarders). Twins, Leslie and Leigh Keno (Antiques Roadshow), are fun to watch. And they're definitely passionate about buried treasures, like a truly ancient, and valuable bowl that was sitting in a pile of junk. The show veered too often into that Hoarders territory. But when it didn't, when it focused on antiques and the people their hopes on cashing in, it can be great.
    Melissa from Bachelor Pad
Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2011 It's hurricane season and here comes a Category 5 named Melissa. Her path? The Bachelor Pad house - especially Blake, writes Kathleen Perricone in the New York Daily News (read the full recap here). After her freakout last week because Blake flirted with Holly, Melissa's feelings are still ultra raw. And now she's on the warpath to get her onetime hookup partner booted out of the house.
    Samuel on The Glee Project
Monday, Aug. 22, 2011 Oxygen’s The Glee Project, a battle of 12 triple threats for a role on the hit Fox show, named not one but two winners Sunday night, writes Sarah Anne Hughes in the Washington Post. But really, all four finalists came away with a reason to sing. Glee mastermind Ryan Murphy told dreadlocked rocker Samuel Larsen that he would be featured on seven episodes during Season 3.
    True Blood
Monday, Aug. 22, 2011 I expected more from the Mavis/Lafayette storyline than what we ultimately got on True Blood (Sunday at 9pm on HBO), writes Jason Hughes on AOLTV (read his full True Blood recap here). After the slow build up with Arlene and Terry's baby possibly being possessed, things just kind of fizzled this week. Thursday, Aug. 18, 2011 It was an eclectic wild card round on America's Got Talent on Wednesday, but only four acts are going to move onto next week's semifinals, writes Jason Hughes on AOLTV. To lighten the festivities we got a very beautiful performance from the cast of "Les Miserables," and Colbie Caillat lit up the stage with her song "Brighter Than the Sun." Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2011 Magician Seth Grabel knows what America likes. Kids are adorable, and he incorporated them into his act in a fun way on America's Got Talent last night (results show tonight at 9/8c on NBC). With a "Back to the Future" theme, Grabel made a DeLorean appear on the stage, claiming it was from the past], writes Jason Hughes on AOLTV.
    Jeff Mauro
Monday, Aug. 15, 2011 The “Sandwich King” has finally been crowned, writes Charles Passey in the Wall Street Journal. Jeff Mauro, a corporate chef from Chicago with a passion for all things that can be created with two slices of bread, was named the new Food Network Star on the series’ Sunday night finale. He beat out Vic Moea, the Vegas chef who played up his “Mama’s Boy” roots, and Susie Jimenez, a Colorado caterer who made modern Mexican her signature cuisine. As part of his prize, Mauro will host his own Food Network series, airing in the coming weeks.
    Melanie
Thursday, Aug. 11, 2011 Sometimes overlooked by lesser reality shows, Fox's So You Think You Can Dance blew up one of its best seasons ever. The finalists were all dancers of the highest caliber. The show, produced by the team behind American Idol is sleek, fast, fun and nearly perfect. The host and judges, too, make it fun and light and great and addictive. Ultimately, this season came down to two women: Melanie and Sasha. But, with her nearly flawless dancing, athletic poses and emotional characterizations, Melanie really didn't have any chance to lose. Now, we wait one long year for next summer's SYTYCD. It's something to look forward to.
    DREW VAN ACKER on PLLs
While we knew Jason DiLaurentis on ABC Family's Pretty Little Liars had the hots for her, we didn’t know that his feelings were firmly residing in stalker territory. When Spencer and Emily broke into his blacked out shed during the episode, they found tons of pictures of her all over his dark room. Can we say creepy? To make matters worse and the girls more disturbed, Jason’s shed also contained quite a bit of surveillance equipment. Now what he could need that for? Logo's The A-List is trying a bit too hard this season (its second) to be scandalous, just like the shows that spawned it, The Real Housewives. But I don't care that much. I still love it. Check out this recap of last night's episode.
This week’s True Blood may have finally given viewers the reason to call this the season of the witches. Antonia/Marnie (Fiona Shaw) dominated the episode and her end game became clear – she aims to reenact the spell she cast as she was burning on the stake during the Spanish Inquisition. She plans to make all the vampires in the area walk out into the sun to their death.
    Melanie
Tadd Gadduang, Marko Germar, Sasha Mallory and Melanie Moore were named this season’s So You Think You Can Dance Top 4 finalists on thursday's exciting results show. Eliminated on Thursday were Ricky Jaime, 19, a Contemporary dancer from Miami and Caitlynn Lawson, 18, a Contemporary dancer from Moses Lake, Wash. Next week, the Top 4 battle it out for America’s vote on the season’s final showdown in hopes of winning the competition on a two-hour, live performance show airing Wednesday, Aug. 10 at 8pm. The judges -- including guest celeb Christina Applegate, and guest choreographer Lil' C -- subsequently found themselves in a bind.
Criticize Melanie too pointedly, and there is an outside chance she may not make the finale, which would be like accidentally denying the sun its right to shine. So they punted, and spoke in general about how great Melanie is and only focused on how refreshing it was to see her at times kewpie sweetness (attempt to) get down and dirty.
Getting strikes from two thirds of the judging team on America's Got Talent juggler Charles Peachock made it into the Top Five on last night's results program. It came down to Peachock and impressionist Melissa Villasenor for the fourth act of the night that would advance to the next round and, not surprisingly, Sharon Osbourne and Howie Mandel, who'd both given strikes to Peachock on Tuesday's show, stuck to their guns and threw their support to Villasenor.
Last night on Hell's Kitchen, it was drama on the sea. Well, slutty craziness more than drama. But, either way. Take a look at a bit of what went down. Watch a Clip Here
On last night's Season 7 finale of ABC's The Bachelorette, Ashley finally got that romantic ending she'd been looking for. On a beach in Fiji she tearfully accepted a proposal of marriage from the last man kneeling: None other than fan favorite J.P. Rosenbaum. The 34-year-old construction manager from Roslyn, New York faced a tough grilling from her family and beat out Ben Flajnik to win Ashley's heart in the end. With the full moon upon Bon Temps, Jason Stackhouse was terrified that this would be his first transformation into a panther, while Tara was facing the demons of her past being revealed to her New Orleans girlfriend. Jesus' uncle knows more than Jesus and Lafayette do about the danger they're facing. But it's Bill and Eric who were at the center of this episode of True Blood (Sunday at 10pm on HBO).

Ah, Project Runway. It’s back. I rarely seem to agree with the judges’ top three picks, so one contestant’s post-panel comment stood out to me. After the quiet but perhaps deadly perfectionist Danielle was announced as part of the dreaded middling Safe Group, she muttered, “That’s, like… not good enough.”
It's an incredibly frightening thing to put yourself out there emotionally in front of someone else. That's why the L-word is such a huge thing in a relationship, and why saying it or not saying it can ruin everything. But on Louie (Thu., 10:30PM on FX), Louis C.K. finally decided he needed to tell Pamela the truth, even if he knew she didn't feel it back.
On Thursday, the Top 8 performed with a new group of SYTYCD All-Stars. Host Cat Deeley announced that the four finalists who received the fewest of America’s votes were Jordan Casanova, Tadd Gadduang, Caitlynn Lawson and Jess LeProtto. Then, judges Nigel Lythgoe and Mary Murphy, as well as guest judge Rob Marshall, revealed that Casanova and LeProtto would be going home. The dance troupe LXD took the stage and pop music icon Lady Gaga performed two of her latest hits, “Edge of Glory” and “You and I.”
Smurfs! Stevie Nicks! Strangely timed eliminations! What a weird America's Got Talent results show.
There was nothing terribly surprising about the four acts that made it through to the AGT semifinals Wednesday night: Sinatra singer Landau Eugene Murphy Jr., the band of youngsters called Poplyfe and operatic beauty Lys Agnes, along with death-defying belly-flopper Professor Splash. And maybe that's why the producers seemed to feel they had to work extra hard to generate suspense.
Lady Gaga only had eyes for Melanie. Her contemporary piece earlier in the night had Gaga on her feet. Truly it was a magnificent and effortless performance, matched only by the strength and power of that closing number. "I would hire you tomorrow to dance on my tour all around the world," Gaga told her. "There is something so athletic and so passionate and so beautiful, and you're such a star." We couldn't agree more.
After a successful season on Deadliest Catch (Tue., 9PM ET on Discovery), there was only one order of business left for Captain Sig Hansen of the Northwestern. He remembers the Chinese lanterns that freaked him out earlier at the hands of the Time Bandit's crew. So he lures them closer by telling Time Bandit Captain Andy Hillstrand, "We got a little shake in the back there. I don't know what it is." The Real Housewives of NYC Reunion Ramona made things personal, and seemed absolutely delighted by the visceral response she was getting on The Real Housewives of New York City (Thu., 10PM ET on Bravo) reunion special. The angrier LuAnn and Jill got, the more she smiled and shifted around in her seat.
    Chris helps Krista
Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition After learning her two-year-old daughter would need half of her brain removed due to a medical condition, Krista turned to food for comfort. Now 270 pounds overweight, she's afraid she won't be around long enough to take care of her little girl. Can Chris Powell save Krista's life? Chris surprises Krista at a family dinner and quickly puts her on a plane to Los Angeles. At 445 pounds, it's time to take her life back. Day Two of boot camp introduces Krista to her first and most difficult workout. It isn't easy, but Chris pushes her before she has the chance to quit. This is just the beginning. Thou shalt not kill is one of the most widely accepted of the Ten Commandments — it's hard to find people who think murder should be sanctioned (except maybe on Showtime's Dexter, but that's a conversation for another time). Still, it's difficult to grieve for Joe Lee Mickens, he with the penchant for unclean underwear and brutal dogfighting, who is killed by his son Tommy at the start of Sunday's episode.
ABC landed the interview every news outlet has been scrambling for: Nafissatou Diallo--the hotel employee who accused International Monetary Fund leader Dominique Strauss-Kahn of rape. This morning, part of the interview aired on Good Morning America, with more to come on World News Tonight and Nightline. Here's the clip from GMA: Torchwood: Miracle Day
With every week it’s on the air, Torchwood: Miracle Day continues to expand its scope. In "Dead of Night," the reach of the show’s story gets even larger as the writers begin to draw connections between all of the characters we’ve met so far and a mysterious (probably evil) drug company named Phicorp. (If I were naming a drug company that, I’d definitely spell it Pficor.) Big Brother
    Cassi
Despite the veterans' supposedly crumbling alliance, there was basically no discord in the house after Cassi and Shelly were nominated for eviction. Of course Shelly and Cassi were sad, but it really seemed like everyone knew the score and was swift to say their goodbyes to Cassi from minute one — and she likewise with them. Real Housewives of New York City Finale
Real Housewives of New York City final -- Ramona Singer reveals she may be pregnant at 53. Anyone who was alive in 1990 remembers when Roseanne Barr sang 'The Star-Spangled Banner' at a Major League Baseball game. The rendition was horrible, she was out of tune, and then she wrapped by spitting and grabbing her crotch. So You Think You Can Dance? So You Think You Can Dance delivered surprising twists aplenty on Wednesday night. Nine of the 10 remaining dancers scored rave reviews from the judges. America's Got Talent
'America's Got Talent' recap: Quarterfinals continue with Dani Shay, Silhouettes

Midway through Tuesday's episode of "America's Got Talent" sixth season quarterfinals, host Nick Cannon grabbed the mic to describe just how much responsibility rested with the viewing public.

"Your vote," he said, "will change lives."

"The Bachelorette": Honestly...do you care about who she picks? Look, I have watched just about every season of "The Bachelor" and "The Bachelorette", and I've NEVER been this bored. I just read in Entertainment Weekly that they've decided to keep "recycling" contestants for the future pickers. They said that they love having characters and a story line, much like on soap operas. Somebody remind me what's happening to all the network soap operas? Right...they are all being canceled pretty much. Bring in some new blood! (See a clip from this show.) http://9.yahoo.com/blog
