Review: Miss You Can Do It

Girls with Disabilities are Given a Chance to Shine
New York Times

Miss You Can Do It (HBO, 9pm), a sweet documentary Monday night on HBO, looks at a completely different effort to celebrate achievement and boost self-esteem: a pageant in Kewanee, Ill., in which girls compete in categories reminiscent of the Miss America event.

The annual pageant was founded by Abbey Curran, who has cerebral palsy. Her story alone would make a compelling documentary: in November 2007 she was crowned Miss Iowa USA, and she went on to compete in the Miss USA pageant.
