Review: Anna Nicole

Anna Nicole is Bleak and Predictable
New York Daily News

Agnes Bruckner
Anna Nicole (Saturday - Lifetime, 8pm) - Agnes Bruckner does a good job portraying Smith as a girl who was born three laps behind. Her father was missing; her mother, Virgie (Virginia Madsen), swung between resentful and indifferent.

Anna, then named Vickie Lynn Hogan, beat the odds by vaulting from pole dancer to Playboy centerfold and a Guess jeans deal.

There were even some happy moments along that path, the film suggests, mostly the ones when she became a legitimately devoted single mom to her son Danny (played by several actors, finally by Graham Patrick Martin).

But the pills and the booze pulled her down, and marrying 89-year-old billionaire J. Howard Marshall (Martin Landau) would probably have solved nothing even if his family hadn’t frozen her out of any inheritance.
